Business was strong at the Toasted Walnut, Cohen said, until the pandemic struck last March, forcing her to temporarily shut its doors in compliance with government orders.īut $11,000 in rent was still due each month, and Cohen struggled to keep up. I don't know much about Englewood, suburb of Denver, I think a little more hispanic pop.Cohen opened the Toasted Walnut in 2016, three years after Sisters Nightclub, then the city’s only lesbian venue, closed down. The best time to rent in Boulder is September, and Janauary (college students have moved by then and landlords are desperate) Louisville also has a big mall - the Rack, Nordstroms and others (only 15mins towards Denver) Our apartments, near Pearl: studios rent for $450, 1bd $600+, 2 bd $800+, 3 bd is $950. Really nice "trendy" resaurants, bars.but mostly college - I wouldn't be surprised if there is a gay bar, however, BOulder is accepting regardless. From what I gather, you'd probably like downtown BOulder/Pearl STreet area.nice shops: Lush, Banana Rep, Peppercorn (gourmet kitchen) etc. If it snows the night before, it's usually melted off the streets & sidewalks by afternoon. I get around just fine in my Volvo (front wheel drive, good tires) - but I don't have to deal with rush hour. You will get an occassional snowstorm - but it knocks everyone out, so being late to work (ie sleeping-in) is understood. Colorado has more sunny days then California.īOulder is fine for the winter.

In the Boulder, Longmont area, those who go to chruch are usually very, ah.conventional.there is a ballot this election for gay rights - my husband and I hope it passes, I guess I'm saying there is a very good community in the Front Range that I'm sure you can find.Īnd: Denver/Front Range is nearly exploding with new mega-malls & it really is true - if you don't like the weather wait a 1/2 hour and it will change. Collins is also very tolerant and may be able to find a more fitting church. Which I don't know about Gay Bars, etc in Denver.(Being a straight, white girl) Ft. But, you would be much closer to Denver for the night life. My husband, while not hispanic, is Assyrian (he looks hispanic) and he gets pulled-over quite a bit. Boulder is very accepting of the gay lifestyle however, I do think you might run into more problems being hispanic (I'm just being honest). It does have a college therefore, a bit more openess and education. So there is still time for me to plan my relocation. As I might get a masters degree before I move up there. I am mildly allergic to cut grass but it is no big deal at all.Īlso I'd like to know what sort of jobs are popular in the Colorado area. My big allergy is mold and fungus (as I start to sneeze a lot and feel light headed and hot). As I am not used to driving in that type of weather. I am just worried about blizzards, snow and ice. I don't mind cold weather as long as it doesn't last too long. The environment I prefer is pretty and clean. Outdoors activities are fun - like lakes and water parks. I like community activities and doing volunteer work. I would like to stay clear of all conservative bible belt or fundamentalist christian areas. I am more into Unitarian Christianity which is a progressive form of Christianity. The chuches I prefer of course are non-conservative. I like clean air, friendly, easy going, and open minded people. But I can deal with the average traffic that any city has most of the time. I do not like crazy out of control traffic. Staying away from racism and homophobia is a big part of my life (So I am not sure if there are gay parts of the city where I could live that are nice and respectable). I like the night life ( rock concerts, and dance clubs) and safety is a big issue. Although I do not believe in hardcore conservatism at all. I believe conservatives and liberals both have good ideas to offer our society. Hi I am a young adult gay hispanic guy (but I look and act like your normal average white guy).
